Tips on selecting a tree service

1/9/2018

Here are several things to consider (or ask) when selecting a Cleveland tree service.  These considerations can make the difference between a good experience and a bad, costly one.

Tip #1

To know you are talking to a  tree service Cleveland residents can trust, always ask for insurance and licensing information.  This will help you determine if the business is legitimate in terms of business licensing; and if the tree service is covered if an accident or injury should occur on your property.  If they are not insured, you could likely be liable under your homeowners policy

Tip #2

Ask for a written estimate for tree services to be performed.   Many shady tree service providers will generally only want to give you a verbal quote.  This sets you up for potential cost escalations and differences of opinions on the exact services performed (vs. quotes).   Getting a written, accurate quote will assure you of the price, even after the tree services have been performed.

Tip #3

Always ask for tree service references.   Online references, even from Google, Facebook, Yelp, etc. can be faked or manipulated.  Personal references generally can not.   Asking for references can give you a first hand account of past performance enabling you to make a better decision of which Cleveland tree service company you should select.

It really is important to make sure that you get a written estimate. That way you agree with the contractor on how much you'll be paying. That way you can rely on them to safely remove the trees.

My husband and I just moved into a home with a couple dead trees in the front yard, and we want these removed as we are worried about the dangers if one on them falls. Your article had some great tips for choosing a good tree service, and I liked how you said to ask for a written estimate that details the service being performed and the total price. You said to avoid companies that only offer verbal quotes, and we'll keep this in mind when choosing the tree service best for us.

Thanks for mentioning how a tree service should have good references. I also like how you said that they should get you an estimate too. My husband and I are looking for a tree service to do some lopping and trimming for us.

The trees in my front yard have become very large and overgrown, and they could use some trimming before they become a danger. Your article had some great tips for choosing a tree service, and I appreciated how you said to get a detailed written estimate of the project before work starts. I should avoid services that only offer a verbal quote, and I'll keep this in mind when choosing a tree service.

I loved when you mentioned how you should get written estimates when getting your trees cared for. It is important to understand that asking for this can help you know how your money is being used. Personally, I would want to check with several professionals when choosing a good one to care for my type of trees.

My sister called me this morning asking for help getting a tree removalist. She just moved into a property and there are some palm trees that are proving difficult that she wants to get rid of. It would help her a lot to know to ask for references to choose a service.

Thanks for the tips on how you can select the right tree service for your yard. You definitely want to get a written estimate so you both know what to expect as far as services go and pricing goes as well. My neighbor has been wanting to get rid of a tree in his yard and has been looking for a company; I will be sure to share this with him.

I have a giant tree in my yard and I would like to get it trimmed, as the branches are beginning to get too close to my roof and power lines. It was helpful when you mentioned to get a written estimate for the tree service, as this will help assure you of the price. Going along with this point, I think it may also be a good idea to make sure they have a paper contract and give it to you before they begin working.

Thank you for taking the time to write this.

The three tips you listed are all things I have been considering as I start to get into the tree service industry in my area. A free estimate or quote is exactly what a new or old customer needs on top of great service to determine it the tree service is right for them.

Thanks you again.

I agree that you should get a written estimate for the tree service first. This will show that they are a trustworthy company. This will also assure you of the price and what to expect, like you said.

Always ask for insurance in this business. To many companies out there are placing bids, and doing jobs without insurance. It's dangerous to both parties, but especially bad for the customer.

I like your advice on getting references from your tree service professionals. This can tell you about the amount of experience they have. You want someone with plenty of past projects to take care of your trees.

I have a few trees that are starting to block the walkway in my front yard, so I am looking for a tree service to come and trim the trees. You make a great point that you should as for a written estimate for the tree services because this way I can compare the prices and services of different companies. Also, it makes sense that you say to ask the company about their licensing and insurance because this would give me peace of mind that I will not be liable if there is an accident.

I always ask for referrals and definitely get at least three quotes when it comes to any tree service, as quotes can be drastically different. I usually go for the middle of the road bid.

I really appreciate your tip to ask for a written estimate before any work gets done! My wife and I have noticed some trees in our front yard that have a lot of dead branches. If we hire someone to get rid of them, I will be sure to choose someone who will give us a written estimate!

We always make sure that any tree service company is licensed and bonded and having a good referral system helps too!

I like the tip you gave to ask your tree servicer for a written cost estimate before they start working, so you will have a good idea of what the final cost will be. I am looking to hire a tree servicer to trim the tree branches that are almost to the power lines. I will be sure to ask for a written cost estimate.

I agree that you want to consider what kind of estimate a tree service before choosing them. It would make sense to find out what they will charge before choosing them. My husband and I are looking for a tree service to let more light into our yard, so we'll have to check their estimate first.

My husband and I just moved into a home with several large, overgrown trees, and we're considering hiring a service that will trim them for us. Your article had some great tips for choosing a tree service that could help us with this, and I liked how you said to get a written, accurate quote for the costs and services to be performed, and we should avoid companies that only give a verbal quote. Thanks; we'll keep this in mind when choosing the tree service best for our needs.

My sister has been talking about the trees in her new yard. They bother her so much and hang very low making them dangerous if they were to fall. It might help her to know that a tree removal service would help and she can ind one by checking references.

My wife and I have an old tree in our yard that we want to remove before winter, so thanks for sharing this. I like your point about getting a written estimate from the tree services first. I'll be sure to request this so I know exactly what I'm paying for beforehand.

It was interesting how you said that we should ask for a written estimate for tree services. It makes sense that we will know exactly where we stand, as you mentioned. There is a couple of trees in my backyard that is close to getting tangled with power lines, so I need to call a tree trimmer to take care of this!

Thanks for giving us tips on picking the right tree service provider. As we need to remove the tree that fell beside our house as it is blocking the way to the garage, your ideas will help make it easier for us to choose the best tree service company. When we do that next week we will simply ask for an estimate of the cost that will be done to give us an idea.

Thank you for all this great information about choosing a tree removal service! One thing that really stood out to me is that you say to always ask for insurance and licensing information. That way, you know they will be able to cover any damages, should any happen.

I really like what you said about verifying if your prospective tree removal company has the license to operate and if they have the right insurance policies. If I were looking to remove a dead tree from our yard, I will definitely want someone that can guarantee me that I won't be paying anything in case of injuries or if the problematic tree collapses on top of my home. That will definitely give me the peace of mind that I am working with professional people with the right safety nets in place that will protect their customer.

Thanks for your tips about how to select a tree service. You mentioned that we should ask for a written estimate for tree services to be performed. This makes sense so you can ensure that you are not getting over or undercharged for the services you asked for. I want to add a pool into my backyard, but there are a few trees in the way of where I want to add the pool. I'll keep these tips in mind when I search for a tree service.

Thanks for the advice to ask for proof of insurance and licensing so you can make sure the business is legitimate. My mom has an old palm tree in her front yard that is dead and she wants removed, so I'm helping her find a tree removal service. We'll have to call around the area to check which companies have a license and insurance so we can then compare ratings and prices to make sure we hire a company that will cleanly get rid of the tree.

My best friend just called me and said a tree fell on her house! I am in shock. I'm trying to do everything I can to help her out. You mentioned that we should be sure to always ask for licensing information. It makes sense that you would want them to be covered if anything happened.
